stop 普通用词,其使用范围广泛,可指停止任何行动、活动或状态.但需注意 stop
to do sth. 和 stop doing sth. 的区别.stop to do sth. 指停下来（为了）去做另
一件事,而stop doing sth. 指停止手中正在做的事.

halt=很突然地停止,是“终”止,譬如说急刹车
cease=慢慢停止（永久性停止）,譬如说cease out,灭绝,绝迹
cease :v.终止,停止,主要指停止已存在的一种状态或行为,多用于书面语.如：
The animal has ceased to exist. 这种动物已经不复存在了.
halt :v.使终止,停止.如：
The soldiers halted for a short rest. 士兵停下休息一会儿.
stop: v阻止,使中断,主要用来指停止正在进行的动作或行为,要注意后跟不定式及动名词的不同[不定式表示还未做的事；动名词表示已经做的事].如：

suspend 一般做悬挂解释用,很少用停止用,只有在一些专业术语里用到停止这个解释

halt 是暂停前进
stop 是终止,停止
cease感觉很正式,用在战争停火什么表达中,或者在一些文学中也常用到.
end和stop当然也不同,end表示彻底结束了,但stop就表示停下来,感觉没end那么彻底.当然.还要结合上下文和具体句型以及介词的搭配.
endless和ceaseless也差不多,但ceaseless极为正式,有点bookish的感觉.
discontinue终止,中断,中止
The bus service was discontinued because nobody used it.
那条公交线因没有乘客而停止营运.
suspend暂停,终止
